IGNOU MSCFSQM Project (MVPP-004): Guidelines, Synopsis Format, Guide Eligibility and Submission

MVPP-004 (Project Work 2) is a 4-credit project course in the second year of the IGNOU M.Sc in Food Safety and Quality Management (MSCFSQM). The IGNOU programme page marks it with an asterisk and says it is meant for lateral entry learners. Its scope is described as the same as Project Work-1 (MVPP-003): a systematic study of how hygiene practices, HACCP and quality and food safety management systems work in a food establishment. The work usually runs in two parts: a synopsis that is approved first, and then the project report.

MVPP-004 at a glance

Figures are taken from the IGNOU programme page for MSCFSQM. For MVPP-003, the related Project Work-1, IGNOU’s programme guide gives a 500-word synopsis and an 80–100 page report, but those figures are for that course, so confirm what applies to MVPP-004 in your own guideline. IGNOU revises its guidelines from time to time.

Who can be your MVPP-004 supervisor?

The supervisor eligibility for this project is set in the official project guideline, and we have not quoted it here because it may change. In IGNOU projects the supervisor is normally a qualified academic or an experienced professional in the subject, and the supervisor’s signed bio-data goes with the synopsis. Choosing an MVPP-004 project topic

The project is practice-oriented, so choose one food establishment you can visit and observe. Areas that work well:

• Hygiene practices: personal hygiene and cleaning routines in a kitchen or bakery
• HACCP: hazards and control points for one product
• Quality systems: record keeping and documentation in a small food unit
• Street food and retail: hygiene of stalls or shops in your area
• Hospitality and institutional catering: food handling in hotels, hostels or canteens

MVPP-004 synopsis format

The exact headings and the proforma are given in the project guideline, so follow that document. A project synopsis in IGNOU normally covers these points:

• Topic and introduction
• Objectives
• Research questions or hypotheses
• Methodology, including place of study and sample
• Expected outcomes and implications for food safety and quality

The proforma and the supervisor’s details must be filled and signed as the guideline asks. Do not start the full report before the synopsis is approved.

MVPP-004 report structure

After approval, the report is built on the same topic, objectives and place of study. A usual plan is:

• Introduction
• Objectives and literature review
• Methodology
• Analysis and findings
• Suggestions and conclusion
• Bibliography and appendices

Check your guideline for the required length and the documents to bind in, which usually include the approved synopsis and a certificate of originality signed by you and your supervisor.

Why MVPP-004 proposals and reports come back
