MTHP-044 is the dissertation course of the IGNOU Master of Performing Arts programme in Theatre Arts (MPATHA). Who can be your MTHP-044 guide?
The guide qualifications, and the forms that carry the guide’s details, are set in your MPATHA dissertation guideline, so check it before you ask anyone to guide you. In general, IGNOU expects a guide who is qualified in the subject and has relevant experience, and who signs the synopsis and the final dissertation. HelpBooks can check your guide’s details against the guideline before you submit.
Choosing an MTHP-044 topic
“Indian theatre”
“Use of folk performance forms in the street plays of one theatre group in a single city”
A good theatre dissertation is narrow, has material you can see or read, and asks a question you can answer. Some areas that work well:
- Folk and traditional theatre: one regional form, its performers and how it is changing
- Playwrights and plays: theme, language and staging of one or two plays
- Street theatre and social messages: a group, a campaign and its audience
- Theatre in education: drama as a tool in schools or community learning
- Acting, direction and design: a director’s method, or costume, light and set choices in a production
If you work in a theatre group or institution, a topic from your own surroundings makes access to people and records easier, with their permission. This is also the first thing our mentors look at when they suggest topics.
MTHP-044 synopsis format
Follow the proforma and sections in your MPATHA dissertation guideline. A theatre dissertation synopsis usually covers:
- Title and statement of the problem
- Aim and research questions
- Review of earlier writing on the topic
- Method: texts, performances, interviews, archives and how you will use them
- Plan of chapters
- References
The proforma, signatures and guide details asked for in the guideline go along with the synopsis. Keep a copy of everything you post.
MTHP-044 dissertation structure
After approval, the dissertation follows the topic and chapter plan that were approved. It normally covers:
- Introduction and aim
- Review of literature
- Method and sources
- Analysis chapters on the form, play, group or production studied
- Findings and conclusion
- Bibliography
- Appendices such as interview notes, scripts extracts or photographs, if your guideline allows them
The bound dissertation must also include the approved synopsis and the certificates or declaration forms listed in your guideline, along with the fee receipt where asked.
HelpBooks mentors help you turn your approved synopsis into a complete MTHP-044 dissertation in your own words, with chapters that follow the plan, a proper bibliography and a final annexure check before you post it. WhatsApp us on 8800002552
Why MTHP-044 proposals and dissertations come back
- Proforma not signed or dated by the student or the guide
- Guide who does not meet the guideline requirements
- Topic too wide, or sources and access not clear
- Objectives that the method cannot answer
- Dissertation that changes the topic or plan from the approved synopsis
- Approved synopsis or certificate missing from the bound copy
- Text copied from books or websites
- Dissertation sent to the wrong office
If your synopsis is not approved: revise it using the evaluator’s comments and resubmit as your guideline directs, with your proposal reference number. Our mentors can rework a returned synopsis using those comments.
How HelpBooks mentors MPATHA learners
Most learners who reach us have one of three problems: they cannot settle on a topic, their synopsis has come back once, or they have approval but do not know how to build chapters from their material. Our mentors stay with you through the whole MTHP-044 journey, from the first topic list to the day your marks appear:
- 5–6 workable topic options based on the groups, plays and sources you can reach, to discuss with your guide
- Synopsis drafted with you in the format of your guideline, with the proforma checked line by line before you post it
- Help with revisions if the evaluator returns your synopsis
- After approval, support in building the full dissertation on your approved synopsis, with original writing and a plagiarism check
- A final check of the bibliography, certificates and envelope before you send it
- Support until your result is declared, including any changes the evaluator asks for

Common questions
Does MTHP-044 include a practical or performance?
Check your MPATHA dissertation guideline. This page does not assume any practical component beyond the written dissertation.
Can I use my own theatre group as the subject?
Often yes, if the group agrees and your guide approves. Keep your analysis balanced, with evidence beyond your own opinion.
Where do I find the credits, length and dates?
In your MPATHA programme guide and the latest guideline on ignou.ac.in, or from your Regional Centre.
Can HelpBooks help if I have already started?
Yes. Many learners come to us after a returned synopsis or with half the chapters written. Share what you have, and we pick up from that stage.
