MSDP-018 is the project course of the IGNOU MA Sustainability Science (MASS) programme, offered by the School of Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Studies. The programme covers resource management, ecological economics, and sustainable development through governance, law and policy. The project is where you apply this to one real question in a place, an organisation or a community. The credit weight, report length and dates are set in the official project guideline, so keep that document open as you read this page.

Who can be your MSDP-018 guide?

The guide qualifications, and the forms that carry the guide’s details, are set in your MASS project guideline, so check it before you ask anyone to guide you. In general, IGNOU expects a guide who is qualified in the subject and has relevant experience, and who signs the synopsis and the final report. HelpBooks can check your guide’s details against the guideline before you submit.

Choosing an MSDP-018 topic

Too broad
“Sustainable development in India”
Approvable
“Awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals among college students of one city”

A good topic is narrow, tied to a place or a group, and possible for you to study with the time and contacts you have. Some areas that work well:

  • Natural resource management: water, forest or land use in a village, block or city
  • Waste and circular practices: household or market waste handling in your locality
  • Ecological economics: cost and benefit of a local conservation or clean energy practice
  • Sustainable development goals: progress or awareness on one goal in a district or institution
  • Governance and policy: working of a local environmental rule, scheme or committee

If you work in an organisation, a topic from your own workplace or city makes data collection far easier. This is also the first thing our mentors look at when they suggest topics.

MSDP-018 synopsis format

Follow the proforma and sections in your MASS project guideline. A synopsis usually covers:

  • Title and introduction to the problem
  • Rationale and objectives
  • Review of literature
  • Methodology: study area, sample, tools, data collection and analysis
  • Expected outcome and limitations
  • References

The proforma, signatures and guide details asked for in the guideline go along with the synopsis. Keep a copy of everything you post.

MSDP-018 project report structure

After approval, the report is built on the same topic, objectives, study area and method that were approved. It normally covers:

  • Introduction
  • Review of literature
  • Research methodology
  • Results and discussion, with tables and charts each followed by its explanation
  • Summary, conclusion and recommendations
  • References
  • Annexures such as the questionnaire

The bound report must also include the approved synopsis and the certificates or declaration forms listed in your guideline, along with the fee receipt where asked.

Got your approval? Let us help you finish the report.
HelpBooks mentors help you turn your approved synopsis into a complete MSDP-018 report with your own data, proper tables and interpretation, and a final annexure check before you post it. WhatsApp us on 8800002552

Why MSDP-018 proposals and reports come back

  • Proforma not signed or dated by the student or the guide
  • Guide who does not meet the guideline requirements
  • Topic too wide, or not linked to sustainability
  • Objectives that the method cannot answer
  • Report that changes the topic, sample or study area from the approved synopsis
  • Approved synopsis or certificate missing from the bound report
  • Copied literature review or theory
  • Report sent to the wrong office

If your synopsis is not approved: revise it using the evaluator’s comments and resubmit as your guideline directs, with your proposal reference number. Our mentors can rework a returned synopsis using those comments.

How HelpBooks mentors MASS learners

Most learners who reach us have one of three problems: they cannot settle on a topic, their synopsis has come back once, or they have approval but do not know how to turn data into a report. Our mentors stay with you through the whole MSDP-018 journey, from the first topic list to the day your marks appear:

  • 5–6 workable topic options based on your job, organisation and city, to discuss with your guide
  • Synopsis drafted with you in the format of your guideline, with the proforma checked line by line before you post it
  • Help with revisions if the evaluator returns your synopsis
  • After approval, support in building the full report on your approved synopsis, with original writing, your own study-area data and a plagiarism check
  • A final check of the annexures, certificates and envelope before you send it
  • Support until your result is declared, including any changes the evaluator asks for

Common questions

Is MSDP-018 compulsory?
It is the project course of the MASS programme, so it is part of the programme structure. Check your programme guide for its credits.

Where do I find the forms and dates?
In the latest MASS project guideline on ignou.ac.in, or from your Regional Centre. Dates and forms are revised from time to time.

Can I choose a topic from my own city or workplace?
Yes, if it fits sustainability science and your guide agrees. A familiar area makes data collection much easier.

Can HelpBooks help if I have already started?
Yes. Many learners come to us after a returned synopsis or with approval in hand. Share what you have, and we pick up from that stage.
