MRDP-205 (Research and Project Work) is the project course of the IGNOU Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Development (PGDRD). It carries 6 credits, the same as each theory course in the programme. The course is meant to let you study a rural development problem and build basic research skills, so the best projects come from a place and a programme you already know.

Who can be your MRDP-205 guide?

The guide qualifications and the forms that carry the guide’s details are set in your PGDRD project guideline, so check it before you ask anyone to guide you. In general, IGNOU expects a guide who is qualified in the subject and has relevant experience, and who signs the proposal and the final report. HelpBooks can check your guide’s details against the guideline before you submit.

Choosing an MRDP-205 project topic

Too broad
“Rural development in India”
Approvable
“Awareness and use of MGNREGA work among women job-card holders in two gram panchayats of one block”

A good MRDP-205 topic is narrow, tied to a place, and possible for you to study with the time and contacts you have. Some areas that work well:

  • Rural employment: working of MGNREGA in a gram panchayat, wage payment and worker satisfaction
  • Self-help groups: role of SHGs in income and decision-making of rural women
  • Rural health and sanitation: use of sanitation facilities or health services in a village cluster
  • Livelihoods and agriculture: farmer awareness of schemes, credit access or allied activities such as dairy
  • Panchayati Raj and housing: functioning of the gram sabha, or beneficiary experience of a rural housing or water scheme

If you work in a rural programme or live in a village, a topic from your own area makes data collection far easier. This is also the first thing our mentors look at when they suggest topics.

MRDP-205 synopsis format

Follow the proforma and sections in your PGDRD project guideline. A rural development synopsis usually covers:

  • Title and statement of the problem
  • Background and review of earlier studies
  • Objectives of the study
  • Study area, sample, tools and method of data collection
  • Plan of analysis
  • Limitations and references

The proforma, signatures and any guide details asked for in the guideline go along with the synopsis. Keep a copy of everything you post.

MRDP-205 project report structure

After approval, the report is built on the same topic, objectives, study area and method that were approved. It normally covers:

  • Introduction and background
  • Review of literature
  • Research methodology
  • Data analysis and interpretation, with tables and charts each followed by its explanation
  • Findings, conclusion and suggestions
  • References
  • Annexures such as the questionnaire or interview schedule

The bound report must also include the approved synopsis and the certificates or declaration forms listed in your guideline, along with the fee receipt where asked.

HelpBooks mentors help you turn your approved synopsis into a complete MRDP-205 report with your own field data, proper tables and interpretation, and a final annexure check before you post it. WhatsApp us on 8800002552

Why MRDP-205 proposals and reports come back

  • Proforma not signed or dated by the student or the guide
  • Guide who does not meet the guideline requirements
  • Topic too wide, or not about a rural development problem
  • Objectives that the method cannot answer
  • Report that changes the topic, sample or study area from the approved synopsis
  • Approved synopsis or certificate missing from the bound report
  • Copied literature review or theory
  • Report sent to the wrong office

If your synopsis is not approved: revise it using the evaluator’s comments and resubmit as your guideline directs, with your proposal reference number. Our mentors can rework a returned synopsis using those comments.

How HelpBooks mentors PGDRD learners

Most learners who reach us have one of three problems: they cannot settle on a topic, their synopsis has come back once, or they have approval but do not know how to turn field data into a report. Our mentors stay with you through the whole MRDP-205 journey, from the first topic list to the day your marks appear:

  • 5–6 workable topic options based on your job, village and district, to discuss with your guide
  • Synopsis drafted with you in the format of your guideline, with the proforma checked line by line before you post it
  • Help with revisions if the evaluator returns your synopsis
  • After approval, support in building the full report on your approved synopsis, with original writing, your own field data and a plagiarism check
  • A final check of the annexures, certificates and envelope before you send it
  • Support until your result is declared, including any changes the evaluator asks for

Common questions

Is MRDP-205 compulsory?
It is the project course of the PGDRD programme and carries 6 credits, so it is part of the programme structure.

Can I choose a topic from my own village or workplace?
Yes, if it is a rural development problem you can study properly and your guide agrees. A familiar area makes data collection much easier.

Where do I find the dates and forms?
In the latest PGDRD project guideline on ignou.ac.in, or from your Regional Centre. Dates and forms are revised from time to time.

Can HelpBooks help if I have already started?
Yes. Many learners come to us after a returned synopsis or with approval in hand. Share what you have, and we pick up from that stage.
