MMPP-001 is the project course of the IGNOU MBA programme. The IGNOU guideline covers MBA, MBAFM, MBAHM, MBAMM, MBAOM and MBF, and MBA (Online) learners follow it through the LMS portal. The project is equal to two courses but is registered as one course of 8 credits, and no separate study material is given for it. The work runs in two parts: first a synopsis (project proposal) that IGNOU must approve, and then a project report based on that approved synopsis.

Who can be your MMPP-001 guide?

IGNOU facultyManagement faculty of the School of Management Studies (SOMS), IGNOU headquarters
Academic counsellorApproved counsellor of the Management Programme with relevant study centre experience
Management teacherManagement faculty with 5 years of postgraduate teaching experience
ProfessionalMaster’s in management or an allied field, with at least 5 years of experience in the relevant area after the Master’s

A guide should be active in the field and should guide only within their core specialisation. One guide can supervise at most five students at a time. If the guide is not an approved IGNOU counsellor, the guide’s signed bio-data (name, date of birth, address and phone numbers, qualifications, work experience in reverse order, and other eligibility details) must go with your synopsis. A guide who is ineligible or already guiding five students is a common reason for a proposal being turned down.

Choosing an MBA project topic

Too broad
“A study of marketing in India”
Approvable
“Effect of social media advertising on purchase decisions of two-wheeler buyers in Jaipur”

A good MMPP-001 topic is narrow, sits in your specialisation, and is possible for you to study with the time and contacts you have. The guideline says the objectives must be specific, measurable and neutral, so choose a topic where you can actually collect the data. Some areas that work well:

  • Marketing: brand preference, digital marketing effect or customer satisfaction in your city
  • Human resources: job satisfaction, employee retention or training effectiveness in one organisation
  • Finance: investor behaviour, working capital management or digital payment use
  • Operations and supply chain: inventory control, quality practices or logistics cost in a single unit
  • Entrepreneurship and MSME: problems of small businesses in your district

If you are working, a topic linked to your own organisation or city makes data collection far easier. This is also the first thing our mentors look at when they suggest topics to an MBA learner.

MMPP-001 synopsis format

The synopsis carries these parts:

  • Introduction (background of the subject)
  • Rationale for choosing the topic
  • Objectives (specific, measurable and without assuming any findings)
  • Research methodology: research design, nature and source of data, sample and sampling technique with reasons, tools and techniques including the questionnaire, data collection methods, and data handling and statistical tools linked to each objective
  • Limitations of the study

With the synopsis you attach the proforma (signed and dated by you and your guide) and the guide’s bio-data where it is required. The proforma asks for your enrolment number, study centre, regional centre, subject area, topic, guide details, whether the guide is an IGNOU management counsellor, and how many students the guide is currently supervising. An incomplete proposal is not accepted, and one without the signed proforma or bio-data will not be entertained.

MMPP-001 project report structure

After approval, the report is built on the same topic, objectives, sample and location that were approved. The chapter scheme in the guideline is:

  • Introduction, literature review and details of the organisation
  • Research methodology, including the questionnaire, reliability and validity of tools, data collection and statistical tools
  • Results and discussion (tables and graphs, each with its interpretation)
  • Summary and conclusion
  • Recommendations
  • Limitations, and directions for further research if you wish
  • References or bibliography
  • Annexures or appendices, such as the questionnaire

The cover page shows your name, enrolment number, guide’s name and project title, and the report needs a detailed table of contents with page numbers. The bound report must also include the approved proposal with proforma and guide bio-data (stapled proposals are not accepted) and the Certificate of Originality signed by you and your guide with dates. Submit one typed A4 copy, double-spaced, and keep a copy for yourself because the report is not returned.

Why MMPP-001 proposals and reports come back

  • Incomplete proposal or missing documents
  • Original signatures missing on the proforma or the guide bio-data
  • Guide not approved, ineligible, or already guiding five students
  • Enrolment expired without re-admission, or approval not re-sought under the new enrolment number
  • Objectives that are vague, cannot be measured, or assume the result
  • Report that changes the topic, sample or study area from the approved synopsis
  • Approved proposal or originality certificate missing from the bound report, so the report is returned for compliance
  • Copied material, since the report must be free from plagiarism

If your synopsis is not approved: send a revised proposal with a fresh proforma, a copy of the rejected proposal and proforma with the evaluator’s comments, and your PP number. If you change the guide, it goes in as a new proposal with the new guide’s signature. Our mentors can rework a returned synopsis using the evaluator’s comments.

How HelpBooks mentors MBA learners

Most learners who reach us have one of three problems: they cannot settle on a topic, their synopsis has come back once, or they have approval but do not know how to turn data into a 50–60 page report. Our mentors stay with you through the whole MMPP-001 journey, from the first topic list to the day your marks appear:

  • 5–6 workable topic options based on your job, organisation, specialisation and city, to discuss with your guide
  • Synopsis drafted with you to the MMPP-001 format, with the proforma and bio-data checked line by line before you post it
  • Help with revisions if the evaluator returns your synopsis
  • After approval, support in building the full report on your approved synopsis, with original writing, your own study data and a plagiarism check
  • A final check of the annexures, certificate and envelope before you send it to the Registrar (SED)
  • Support until your result is declared, including any changes the evaluator asks for

Common questions

Is MMPP-001 compulsory?
Yes, it is the project course of the MBA programme and carries 8 credits.

Can I choose a guide from my workplace?
Yes, if the person has a Master’s in management or an allied field and at least 5 years of experience in the relevant area after that Master’s, and is not already guiding five students.

How long does synopsis approval take?
Decision letters normally reach you within 2 to 3 months of the Regional Centre receiving the proposal. Keep a copy of everything you post and note your PP number.

Is there a viva for MMPP-001?
A viva can be held if the evaluator recommends it, and you are told in advance. Know your own report well either way.

Can HelpBooks help if I have already started?
Yes. Many learners come to us after a returned synopsis or with approval in hand. Share what you have, and we pick up from that stage.
