MLEP-117 is the Project course of the IGNOU Post Graduate Diploma in Criminal Justice (PGDCJ). The IGNOU programme page lists it as an 8-credit project in the first (and only) year of the diploma. It is where you study one criminal justice question in some depth, rather than writing an answer paper.

Who can be your MLEP-117 guide?
The programme page does not list guide eligibility. Check the conditions in your project guideline or ask the PGDCJ programme coordinator. HelpBooks can check whether your proposed guide meets the condition before you submit anything.
Choosing a PGDCJ project topic
“Crime and punishment in India”
“Awareness of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act among married women in two blocks of Gaya district”
A good topic is narrow, has a defined group, place or set of cases, and uses material you can lawfully access. Some areas that work well:
- Police and community: public trust, complaint handling, women's help desks
- Juvenile justice: working of observation homes, awareness of the Juvenile Justice Act
- Crimes against women and children: reporting patterns, support services, awareness of the law
- Cyber crime: awareness among students or senior citizens, reporting problems
- Prisons and legal aid: rehabilitation, access to legal aid, victim compensation
If you work in a police, legal, social work or prison setting, choose a topic from your own field, with the permission your department requires.
MLEP-117 synopsis format
Use the format and proforma given in your PGDCJ project guideline. If it leaves the outline open, a synopsis normally carries:
- Title and introduction to the problem
- Rationale of the study
- Review of literature
- Objectives
- Methodology: study area, sample or case set, tools, data collection
- Ethical points such as consent and confidentiality
- Limitations and references
MLEP-117 project report structure
The report follows the approved synopsis. A usual layout is:
- Title page, certificate and declaration
- Introduction
- Review of literature
- Methodology
- Findings and discussion with tables and charts
- Conclusion and recommendations
- References and annexures (questionnaire, interview guide)
Attach the approved synopsis and the certificates your guideline asks for. Length and binding rules are in the guideline.
HelpBooks mentors help you turn your approved synopsis into a complete MLEP-117 report with your own data, tables and interpretation, and a final check of the annexures before you submit. WhatsApp us on 8800002552
Why MLEP-117 synopses and reports come back
- Guide outside the eligibility given in the guideline
- Proforma or certificates unsigned or undated
- Topic too wide, or without a defined group, place or case set
- Objectives that the methodology cannot answer
- Report that changes the topic or sample from the approved synopsis
- Names or details of victims and accused shown without consent or protection
- Copied literature review or legal text
- Report sent to the wrong office
If your synopsis is returned: revise it using the evaluator's comments and send it again as your guideline directs. Our mentors can rework a returned synopsis using those comments.
How HelpBooks mentors PGDCJ learners
Most learners who reach us have one of three problems: they cannot settle on a topic, their synopsis has come back once, or they have approval but do not know how to turn their material into a report. Our mentors stay with you through the whole MLEP-117 journey, from the first topic list to the day your marks appear:
- 5–6 workable topic options based on your job, department and city, to discuss with your guide
- Synopsis drafted with you in the guideline's format, with the proforma checked line by line before you post it
- Help with revisions if the evaluator returns your synopsis
- After approval, support in building the full report on your approved synopsis, with original writing, your own data and a plagiarism check
- A final check of certificates, annexures and envelope before you submit
- Support until your result is declared, including any changes the evaluator asks for
