MJMP-022 is the Research Portfolio course of the IGNOU MA in Journalism and Mass Communication (MAJMC). It carries 6 credits in the second year. The MAJMC Programme Guide gives you a choice between this Research Portfolio and the MJMP-120 Major Project Work (Dissertation), which is also 6 credits. You take one of the two, not both.

The MJMP-022 journey at a glance

Guide eligibility, portfolio items, length, address, viva As per the MJMP-022 handbook

Figures are based on the MAJMC Programme Guide and the IGNOU programme page. Please note that MJM-022 (Writing and Editing for Print Media) is a different, theory course and has nothing to do with this portfolio. IGNOU revises its guidelines from time to time, so check the latest handbook before you begin.

Who can be your MJMP-022 guide?

The Programme Guide does not list guide conditions. They are in the Research Portfolio handbook, so read it first or ask the MAJMC programme coordinators. HelpBooks can check whether your proposed guide meets the condition before you submit anything.

Choosing a research portfolio theme

Too broad
“Impact of social media on society”
Approvable
“Coverage of flood relief in two Hindi dailies of Patna during the 2024 monsoon”

A good theme is narrow, has material you can collect, and fits the format of the portfolio. Some areas that work well:

  • News coverage: how newspapers or channels covered an event, a scheme or a social issue
  • Digital media: news habits, fact-checking, or use of social media by a local organisation
  • Regional and community media: community radio, local language press
  • Media and audience: viewing or reading habits of a specific group
  • Advertising and public relations: campaigns of a public body and how people received them

If you work in a newsroom, agency or PR office, a theme from your own beat gives you ready material.

MJMP-022 proposal format

Use the format and proforma in the Research Portfolio handbook. If it leaves the outline open, a proposal normally carries:

  • Title and background
  • Rationale of the study
  • Objectives or research questions
  • Review of related work
  • Method, material or sample, and the period covered
  • Plan of the portfolio components
  • References

MJMP-022 portfolio structure

The Programme Guide does not list the components of the portfolio. Follow the handbook for the exact items, word counts, order and format, and attach whatever certificates and forms it names. Keep your own working copy and any soft copies the handbook asks for.

Got your approval? Let us help you finish the portfolio.
HelpBooks mentors help you turn your approved plan into a complete MJMP-022 research portfolio with your own material, analysis and interpretation, and a final check of the forms before you submit. WhatsApp us on 8800002552

Why MJMP-022 proposals and portfolios come back

  • Doing MJMP-022 and MJMP-120 both, or mixing their formats
  • Guide outside the eligibility given in the handbook
  • Forms or certificates unsigned or undated
  • Theme too wide, or no clear research question
  • Portfolio components missing or out of the order the handbook gives
  • Work that changes the theme or material from the approved plan
  • Copied text or analysis from earlier studies
  • Submission outside the allowed window or to the wrong office

If your proposal is returned: revise it using the comments you receive and send it again as your handbook directs. Our mentors can rework a returned proposal using those comments.

How HelpBooks mentors MAJMC learners

Most learners who reach us have one of three problems: they cannot decide between the portfolio and the dissertation, their proposal has come back once, or they have approval but do not know how to shape the work. Our mentors stay with you through the whole MJMP-022 journey, from the first theme list to the day your marks appear:

  • 5–6 workable themes based on your media work, beat and city, to discuss with your guide
  • Proposal drafted with you in the handbook's format, with the proforma checked line by line before you post it
  • Help with revisions if the evaluator returns your proposal
  • After approval, support in building the full portfolio on your approved plan, with original writing, your own material and a plagiarism check
  • A final check of certificates, forms and envelope before you submit
  • Support until your result is declared, including any changes the evaluator asks for
