MHUP-014 is the Dissertation / Project of the IGNOU MA in Human Values and Ethics (MAHUE). The IGNOU programme page lists it as an 8-credit course in the second year. Because the dissertation is where you apply what you learnt about values and ethics to a real question, the choice of topic matters more here than in most courses.

Choosing a Human Values and Ethics dissertation topic

Too broad
“Ethics in modern society”
Approvable
“Awareness of professional ethics among nursing students in two colleges of Varanasi”

A good dissertation topic is narrow, has a clear group or text to study, and links to the concepts you learnt in the course. Some areas that work well:

  • Professional ethics: ethical practices among teachers, doctors, lawyers, journalists or bank staff
  • Value education: values among school or college students and the role of family and school
  • Gandhian and other thinkers: a focused study of one idea, such as trusteeship or non-violence, and its use today
  • Environmental ethics: attitudes towards nature and sustainable living in a community
  • Workplace and digital ethics: integrity in organisations, ethical use of social media

A topic from your own profession or institution is easier to study and easier to defend.

MHUP-014 synopsis format

Use the format and proforma given in your MAHUE programme guideline. If it leaves the outline open, a dissertation synopsis normally carries:

  • Title and introduction
  • Rationale of the study
  • Review of literature
  • Objectives and research questions
  • Methodology: method, sample or sources, tools, analysis
  • Chapter plan
  • Limitations and references

MHUP-014 dissertation structure

The dissertation follows the approved synopsis. A usual layout is:

  • Title page, certificate and declaration
  • Introduction
  • Review of literature
  • Research methodology
  • Analysis and discussion
  • Summary, conclusion and suggestions
  • References and annexures

Attach the approved synopsis and the certificates your guideline asks for. Length and binding rules are in the guideline.

Why MHUP-014 synopses and dissertations come back

  • Guide outside the eligibility given in the guideline
  • Proforma or certificates unsigned or undated
  • Topic too wide, or without a clear question or group to study
  • Objectives that the methodology cannot answer
  • Dissertation that changes the topic or sample from the approved synopsis
  • Opinions without support from sources or data
  • Copied literature review or theory
  • Dissertation sent to the wrong office

If your synopsis is returned: revise it using the evaluator's comments and send it again as your guideline directs. Our mentors can rework a returned synopsis using those comments.

How HelpBooks mentors MAHUE learners

Most learners who reach us have one of three problems: they cannot settle on a topic, their synopsis has come back once, or they have approval but do not know how to turn their material into a dissertation. Our mentors stay with you through the whole MHUP-014 journey, from the first topic list to the day your marks appear:

  • 5–6 workable topic options based on your profession, institution and city, to discuss with your guide
  • Synopsis drafted with you in the guideline's format, with the proforma checked line by line before you post it
  • Help with revisions if the evaluator returns your synopsis
  • After approval, support in building the full dissertation on your approved synopsis, with original writing, your own data or sources and a plagiarism check
  • A final check of certificates, annexures and envelope before you submit
  • Support until your result is declared, including any changes the evaluator asks for
