MEVP-011 is the project course of the IGNOU M.Sc Environmental Science (MSCENV) programme. IGNOU lists it as Project Work, and learners usually call it the dissertation. It carries 8 credits. The work runs in two parts: a proposal that must be approved first, and then a project report based on that approved proposal.

Who can be your MEVP-011 supervisor?

Academic CounsellorIGNOU Academic Counsellor at a Learner Support Centre for the MSCENV programme, with relevant experience
Teacher or researcherPh.D. in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies or a related discipline with 2 years of teaching or research experience, or M.Sc. in such a discipline with 5 years of teaching or research experience
IGNOU facultyFaculty at IGNOU Headquarters, School of Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Studies (SOITS)

The supervisor must also be acceptable to SOITS. If the supervisor is not accepted, you must change the supervisor and submit a new proposal with the new supervisor’s signature. Academic Counsellors should state the courses they counsel, since when, and their study centre name and code. You do not have to pay the supervisor any fee, as the University pays the honorarium.

Choosing an MEVP-011 topic

Too broad
“Water pollution in India”
Approvable
“Assessment of drinking water quality in selected hand pumps of two villages of your district”

The manual asks you to pick a topic that relates directly to your own day-to-day activities, alone or with your supervisor. Some areas that work well:

  • Water and soil: quality of ground water, pond or river water near your home
  • Air and noise: local air quality or noise levels at a market, school or traffic junction
  • Waste: household or market solid waste handling in your ward
  • Biodiversity: plants, birds or insects of a local park, campus or sanctuary
  • Environmental awareness: awareness and practices among farmers, students or workers in your area

If you are working, a topic linked to your own organisation or city makes data collection far easier. This is also the first thing our mentors look at when they suggest topics.

MEVP-011 proposal format

The proposal is about 1,500 words and contains:

  • Title
  • Introduction and objectives
  • Methodology and tools
  • Utility or scope of the work
  • Future directions

Submit it with the Project Proposal Proforma (Annexure I), signed by you and your supervisor, and the supervisor’s complete signed bio-data. The proforma asks for your enrolment number, study centre and regional centre codes, contact details, project title and the supervisor’s name, designation and address, and whether the supervisor is an MSCENV Academic Counsellor. An incomplete proforma is not accepted.

MEVP-011 report structure

After approval, the report is built on the same title and plan that were approved. The manual lists these sections:

  • Table of contents or index
  • Introduction to the project
  • Objectives
  • Methodology (survey, data, tools and techniques)
  • Results
  • Analysis and interpretation
  • Conclusions
  • Recommendations (future scope and enhancement)
  • Summary
  • Bibliography
  • Appendices, if any

The bound report must include the original approved proposal proforma and the Certificate of Originality (Annexure II) signed by you and your supervisor. Number all pages, tables and figures, and give every table and figure a title. The report title and the supervisor’s signature must match those on the approved proforma. Send one spiral-bound copy with a CD of the report as a PDF to The Registrar, Student Evaluation Division, IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi – 110068, with the envelope marked “M.Sc. Environmental Science (MSCENV) Project Report (MEVP-011)”. Keep a photocopy, because you may need it at the viva.

Got your approval? Let us help you finish the report.
HelpBooks mentors help you turn your approved proposal into a complete MEVP-011 report with your own field or survey data, proper tables and interpretation, and a final annexure check before you post it. WhatsApp us on 8800002552

Why MEVP-011 proposals and reports come back

  • Proposal sent without the supervisor’s complete signed bio-data, or with an incomplete proforma
  • Supervisor outside the eligibility list or not acceptable to SOITS
  • Topic too wide, or objectives that the methodology cannot answer
  • Report title or supervisor signature not matching the approved proforma
  • Approved proposal proforma or the signed Certificate of Originality missing from the report
  • Identical or copied proposals and reports, since the work must be individual
  • Copied text, which goes to the IGNOU unfair means committee

If your proposal is not approved: the Coordinator gives suggestions for improvement. Send a revised proposal with a new proforma and attach a copy of the earlier non-approved proforma. Our mentors can rework a returned proposal using those comments.

How HelpBooks mentors M.Sc Environmental Science learners

Most learners who reach us have one of three problems: they cannot settle on a topic, their proposal has come back once, or they have approval but do not know how to turn field data into a 7,000–8,000 word report. Our mentors stay with you through the whole MEVP-011 journey, from the first topic list to the day your marks appear:

  • 5–6 workable topic options based on your job, organisation and city, to discuss with your supervisor
  • Proposal drafted with you to the MEVP-011 format, with the proforma and bio-data checked line by line before you submit it
  • Help with revisions if your proposal is returned
  • After approval, support in building the full report on your approved proposal, with original writing, your own study-area data and a plagiarism check
  • A final check of the annexures, certificate and envelope before you send it to the Registrar (SED)
  • Support until your result is declared, including viva preparation

Common questions

How many credits is MEVP-011?
It carries 8 credits.

Is there a viva for MEVP-011?
Yes. Out of 100 marks, 30 are for the viva-voce, which is held face to face at the Programme Study Centre. Phone, email and teleconference vivas are not allowed. Bring a copy of your report.

How long is a proposal valid?
An approved proposal is valid for one year, which means two submission slots. If the report is not submitted in those slots, you need a fresh proposal.

What happens if I fail?
According to the manual, you repeat the cycle from the proposal stage, and choosing a new topic is advised. A pro-rata resubmission fee is payable with the resubmitted report, so check the current amount in the manual.

Can HelpBooks help if I have already started?
Yes. Many learners come to us after a returned proposal or with approval in hand. Share what you have, and we pick up from that stage.

HelpBooks is an independent academic support service and is not affiliated with IGNOU. Rules on this page are summarised from the MEVP-011 project manual; always follow the latest official guideline and your supervisor’s instructions.
