MERP-001 project? HelpBooks will guide you from topic to marks
Our project mentors work with IGNOU postgraduate learners on proposals and reports every session. You get one team that stays with you through every stage:

- Full report support on your approved proposal, original and plagiarism-checked
- Help with revisions until your result is declared
MERP-001 is “Project I” of the IGNOU MA Entrepreneurship (MAER) programme. IGNOU’s programme page places it in Semester 2, and the second project, MERP-002 (Project II), in Semester 4. Like other IGNOU projects, the work runs in two parts: first a project proposal that has to be approved, and then a project report based on that approved proposal.

Who can be your MERP-001 guide?
IGNOU sets conditions on who can guide a project, such as qualification and years of experience, and they are written in your programme’s project guideline. We have not quoted them here because they differ between schools and sessions. A guide who does not meet the conditions is one of the common reasons a proposal is sent back. Before you ask someone to sign your proforma, share their qualifications and experience with our mentors and we will check them against the guideline.
Choosing an MERP-001 project topic
“Entrepreneurship in India”
“Problems faced by women-owned micro enterprises in accessing bank credit in Jaipur city”
A good MERP-001 topic is narrow, tied to entrepreneurship, and possible for you to study with the time and contacts you have. Some areas that work well:
- Women entrepreneurs: challenges and support available in your city or district
- Start-ups and MSMEs: funding, registration and scheme awareness among small owners
- Family business: succession and growth of a local trade
- Rural enterprise: self-help group enterprises or agri-based units
- Digital business: use of online platforms and payments by small sellers
If you run or work in a business, a topic linked to it makes data collection far easier. This is also the first thing our mentors look at when they suggest topics to a MAER learner.
MERP-001 proposal format
IGNOU project proposals usually cover the parts below. Check your guideline for the exact headings and page limit:
- Title
- Introduction and rationale
- Objectives
- Review of literature
- Research methodology: area of study, sample, tools, data collection and analysis
- Limitations
- References
The proposal goes with the proforma signed and dated by you and your guide. If the evaluator returns it, you revise and resend with the comments.
MERP-001 project report structure
After approval, the report is built on the same topic, objectives, sample and location that were approved. It normally covers:
- Introduction
- Review of literature
- Research methodology
- Results and discussion, with tables and charts each followed by its interpretation
- Conclusion, limitations and suggestions
- References
- Annexures such as the questionnaire
The bound report also carries the approved proposal and the originality certificate signed by you and your guide. Your guideline gives the exact list.
HelpBooks mentors help you turn your approved proposal into a complete MERP-001 report with your own field data, proper tables and interpretation, and a final annexure check before you post it. WhatsApp us on 8800002552
Why MERP-001 proposals and reports come back
- Proforma not signed or dated by the student and the guide
- Guide outside the eligibility conditions
- Topic too wide, or not related to entrepreneurship
- Objectives that the methodology cannot answer
- Report that changes the topic, sample or study area from the approved proposal
- Approved proposal or originality certificate missing from the bound report
- Copied literature review or theory
- Report sent to the wrong office
If your proposal is not approved: send a revised proposal as your guideline directs, with the evaluator’s comments and your proposal number. Our mentors can rework a returned proposal using the evaluator’s comments.
How HelpBooks mentors MAER learners
Most learners who reach us have one of three problems: they cannot settle on a topic, their proposal has come back once, or they have approval but do not know how to turn data into a full report. Our mentors stay with you through the whole MERP-001 journey, from the first topic list to the day your marks appear:
- 5–6 workable topic options based on your job, business and city, to discuss with your guide
- Proposal drafted with you in the format your guideline asks for, with the proforma checked line by line before you post it
- Help with revisions if the evaluator returns your proposal
- After approval, support in building the full report on your approved proposal, with original writing, your own field data and a plagiarism check
- A final check of the annexures, certificate and envelope before you send it
- Support until your result is declared, including any changes the evaluator asks for

Common questions
What is the difference between MERP-001 and MERP-002?
IGNOU’s programme page lists MERP-001 as Project I in Semester 2 and MERP-002 as Project II in Semester 4. Check your programme guide for how the two are linked in your session.
Can I choose a guide from my workplace?
Yes, if the person meets the guide conditions in your guideline. Share their details with us and we will check.
Is there a viva for MERP-001?
Check your programme guideline. Whatever the rule, know your own report well.
Can I study my own business?
You can, if the topic is narrow, the objectives are clear and your guide agrees. Keep the study objective and base it on data, not opinion.
Can HelpBooks help if I have already started?
Yes. Many learners come to us after a returned proposal or with approval in hand. Share what you have, and we pick up from that stage.
