MCOP-001 project? HelpBooks will guide you from topic to marks
Our project mentors have worked with M.Com learners across India on MCOP-001 synopses and reports. You get one team that stays with you through every stage:
- Topic options based on your job, organisation and city
- Synopsis drafted with you in the MCOP-001 format, proforma checked before posting
- Full report support on your approved synopsis, original and plagiarism-checked
- Help with revisions until your result is declared
MCOP-001 is the project course of the IGNOU M.Com programme. It is a six-credit course placed in the fourth semester, and for many learners it is the only piece of real research they do during the degree. The work runs in two parts: first a synopsis (project proposal) that IGNOU must approve, and then a full project report based on that approved synopsis.

Who can be your MCOP-001 guide?
A guide supervises only in their own area, and the guide’s signed bio-data (name, date of birth, address and phone, degrees, work experience in order, and other eligibility details) goes with your synopsis. A guide who does not meet these conditions is one of the most common reasons a proposal is marked “Supervisor: Not Approved”.
Choosing an M.Com project topic
“A study of banking in India”
“Customer satisfaction with mobile banking services of public sector banks in Lucknow”
A good MCOP-001 topic is narrow, linked to commerce, and possible for you to study with the time and contacts you have. Some areas that work well:
- Finance and banking: working capital, ratio analysis of a listed company, NPAs of a regional bank, investor behaviour in mutual funds
- Taxation: GST compliance problems of small traders in your city
- Marketing: customer satisfaction with a brand or online platform in your district
- HRM: job satisfaction or retention in a specific organisation
- MSME and digital payments: UPI adoption among small retailers, MSME access to credit
If you are working, a topic linked to your own organisation or city makes data collection far easier. This is also the first thing our mentors look at when they suggest topics to an M.Com learner.
MCOP-001 synopsis format
The synopsis has seven parts:
- Introduction
- Rationale of the study
- Review of literature
- Objectives
- Research methodology: research design, nature and source of data, sample and sampling method, tools, data collection, and statistical tools
- Implications of the study
- Limitations
With the synopsis you attach the proforma (Annexure-I), signed and dated by both you and your guide, and the guide’s bio-data. The regional centre allots a Project Proposal (PP) number, and the evaluator marks the synopsis and the supervisor separately as approved or not approved.
MCOP-001 project report structure
After approval, the report is built on the same topic, objectives, sample and location that were approved. It normally covers:
- Introduction
- Review of literature
- Research methodology
- Results and discussion (data analysis with tables and charts, each followed by its interpretation)
- Summary and conclusion
- Recommendations and implications
- Limitations and scope for further research
- References in APA style
- Annexures (questionnaire and other documents)
The bound report must also include the approved synopsis (bound in, not just stapled), the originality certificate (Annexure-II) signed by you and your guide, and a copy of the project fee receipt.
HelpBooks mentors help you turn your approved synopsis into a complete MCOP-001 report with your own study-area data, proper tables and interpretation, and a final annexure check before you post it. WhatsApp us on 8800002552
Why MCOP-001 proposals and reports come back
- Proforma not signed or dated by the student or the guide
- Guide outside the eligibility list, or guiding outside their own area
- Topic too wide, or not related to commerce
- Objectives that the methodology cannot answer
- Report that changes the topic, sample or study area from the approved synopsis
- Approved synopsis or originality certificate missing from the bound report
- Copied literature review or theory
- Report sent to the regional centre instead of the Registrar (SED)
If your synopsis is not approved: send a revised synopsis with a fresh Annexure-I, a copy of the rejected synopsis with the evaluator’s comments, and your PP number. If only the guide was not approved, choose an eligible guide and resubmit it as a new proposal. Our mentors can rework a returned synopsis using the evaluator’s comments.
How HelpBooks mentors M.Com learners
Most learners who reach us have one of three problems: they cannot settle on a topic, their synopsis has come back once, or they have approval but do not know how to turn data into a 60–80 page report. Our mentors stay with you through the whole MCOP-001 journey, from the first topic list to the day your marks appear:
- 5–6 workable topic options based on your job, organisation and city, to discuss with your guide
- Synopsis drafted with you to the MCOP-001 seven-part format, with the proforma and bio-data checked line by line before you post it
- Help with revisions if the evaluator returns your synopsis
- After approval, support in building the full report on your approved synopsis, with original writing, your own study-area data and a plagiarism check
- A final check of the annexures, certificate and envelope before you send it to the Registrar (SED)
- Support until your result is declared, including any changes the evaluator asks for

Common questions
Is MCOP-001 compulsory?
Yes, it is the project course of the M.Com programme and carries 6 credits.
Can I choose a guide from my workplace?
Yes, if the person has a master’s degree in commerce or an allied subject and at least 5 years of experience in the area of your project.
How long does synopsis approval take?
Usually two to three months. Keep a copy of everything you post and note your PP number.
Is there a viva for MCOP-001?
The MCOP-001 guideline does not mention a viva, but IGNOU can hold one through the regional centre as per faculty rules. Know your own report well either way.
Can HelpBooks help if I have already started?
Yes. Many learners come to us after a returned synopsis or with approval in hand. Share what you have, and we pick up from that stage.
