MBCP-001 project? HelpBooks will guide you from topic to marks
Our project mentors have worked with IGNOU postgraduate learners on synopses and reports. You get one team that stays with you through every stage:
- Topic options based on your lab access, job, organisation and city
- Synopsis drafted with you in the MBCP-001 format, proforma checked before posting
- Full report support on your approved synopsis, original and plagiarism-checked
- Help with revisions until your result is declared
MBCP-001 is the project course of the IGNOU M.Sc Biochemistry (MSCBCH) programme. It carries 8 credits and sits in the fourth semester. The project guideline describes it as a practical, lab-oriented project, not a theory or literature-based exercise. The work runs in two parts: a synopsis (proposal) that the School of Sciences must approve, and then a bound project report followed by a viva-voce.

Figures are based on the MBCP-001 project guidelines. The document is not consistent on a few points (for example synopsis length and the report recipient), so check the latest version on ignou.ac.in and confirm doubtful points with the Programme Coordinator.
Who can be your MBCP-001 supervisor?
A supervisor should guide only in their core specialization. The supervisor’s signed bio-data and a certified copy of identity proof go with your synopsis. Changing the supervisor later means sending a fresh proposal.
Choosing an M.Sc Biochemistry project topic
“A study of enzymes in human health”
“Comparison of total phenolic content and antioxidant activity in leaf extracts of two locally available medicinal plants”
Because MBCP-001 must be practical and lab-oriented, a good topic is narrow, uses methods you can run with the equipment you can reach, and fits inside the 4 to 6 months suggested. Some areas that work well:
- Enzymology: activity and simple kinetics of an enzyme from a plant, microbial or food source
- Clinical biochemistry: estimation of blood glucose, lipid or liver-function markers, where you have lab access and consent procedures are in place
- Plant biochemistry: phytochemical screening and antioxidant assays of local plants
- Food and nutritional biochemistry: protein, carbohydrate or vitamin estimation in local food items
- Microbial biochemistry: protein extraction, estimation and characterisation from a bacterial or fungal culture
If you work in a hospital, diagnostic lab, college lab or food unit, a topic linked to that setting makes the practical work far easier. This is the first thing our mentors look at when they suggest topics.
MBCP-001 synopsis format
The guideline asks the proposal to cover:
- Title and introduction
- Literature review
- Objectives (four or five are recommended)
- Hypothesis
- Methodology, including population and sample size if there is fieldwork
- Significance of the study and future scope
- References
With the synopsis you attach the approval proforma, fully filled in and signed with dates by both you and your supervisor, the supervisor’s signed bio-data, a certified copy of the supervisor’s identity proof, and a self-addressed stamped envelope for ordinary post. An incomplete proforma is rejected.
MBCP-001 project report structure
After approval, the report follows the same title and plan. The guideline gives this chapter scheme, with a report of about 100 to 125 pages:
- Front matter: title page, certificate of originality, acknowledgements, contents, lists of tables and figures, abbreviations and abstract
- Chapter 1: Introduction
- Chapter 2: Review of Literature
- Chapter 3: Materials and Methods
- Chapter 4: Results
- Chapter 5: Discussions
- Chapter 6: Summary and Conclusions
- Chapter 7: Recommendations
- Chapter 8: Bibliography, followed by Appendices
Format: A4 paper, 1.5 line spacing, 12-point Times New Roman or 11-point Arial. The bound report must carry the original approved proforma, the approved proposal, the certificate of originality and the signed plagiarism disclaimer, and it goes with a plagiarism report. A photocopy of the report is not accepted.
HelpBooks mentors help you turn your approved synopsis into a complete MBCP-001 report with proper results, tables and discussion, and a final annexure check before you post it. WhatsApp us on 8800002552
Why MBCP-001 proposals and reports come back
- Proforma incomplete or not signed and dated by you and your supervisor
- Supervisor bio-data missing
- Supervisor outside the eligibility list or guiding outside their specialization
- Topic that is theory or literature based instead of practical lab work
- Project title changed after approval
- Original approved proforma, approved proposal or certificate of originality missing from the report
- A photocopy of the report sent instead of the bound original
- Copied content, which is treated as unfair means
If your synopsis is not approved: revise it using the evaluator’s comments and send it again in the next proposal slot. Changing the supervisor requires a new proposal. Our mentors can rework a returned synopsis using the evaluator’s comments.
How HelpBooks mentors M.Sc Biochemistry learners
Most learners who reach us have one of three problems: they cannot settle on a practical topic, their synopsis has come back once, or they have approval but are unsure how to turn their lab results into a 100–125 page report. Our mentors stay with you through the whole MBCP-001 journey, from the first topic list to the day your marks appear:
- 5–6 workable topic options based on your lab access, job and city, to discuss with your supervisor
- Synopsis drafted with you to the MBCP-001 requirements, with the proforma and bio-data checked line by line before you post it
- Help with revisions if the evaluator returns your synopsis
- After approval, support in building the full report on your approved synopsis, with original writing, your own results and a plagiarism check
- A final check of the annexures, certificate and envelope before you submit
- Support until your result is declared, including viva preparation and any changes the evaluator asks for

Common questions
Is MBCP-001 compulsory?
It is the project course of the M.Sc Biochemistry programme and carries 8 credits.
Can I choose a supervisor from my workplace?
Yes, if the person is a Ph.D. in Biochemistry or an allied discipline with at least 2 years of teaching, research or industrial experience.
How long does synopsis approval take?
The guideline says approval or non-approval is communicated within 30 days. Keep a copy of everything you post.
Is there a viva for MBCP-001?
Yes. The viva-voce carries 30 marks and is compulsory. It can be held face to face or online through Google Meet or Zoom, but not by telephone or email. Missing it leaves the project incomplete.
Can HelpBooks help if I have already started?
Yes. Many learners come to us after a returned synopsis or with approval in hand. Share what you have, and we pick up from that stage.
