- Full project and report support on the approved synopsis, original and plagiarism-checked
- Help with revisions and viva preparation until your result is declared
BCSP-165 is the project course of the IGNOU BCA programme (BCA_NEW). IGNOU lists it as a 12-credit course in the sixth semester. The aim is to build a quality software solution by following software engineering principles: you define a problem, analyse the requirements, design, develop, test and document the system. IGNOU encourages you to spend most of the sixth semester on the project, preferably at a software company or research organisation. The work runs in two parts: first a synopsis (project proposal) that IGNOU must approve, and then the full project and report.

Credits, semester and the project aim are from the IGNOU BCA programme page. The programme page refers to the BCSP-064 project guidelines, so the guide, synopsis and report details below are taken from that guideline (BCSP-064, July 2023 to January 2024 session). We could not find a separate BCSP-165 booklet with its own limits, so check the current BCSP-165 notice and your own guideline for any change in page limits, slots, marks or tools.
Who can be your BCSP-165 guide?
In the BCSP-064 guideline the degrees must be in Computer Science or IT only. The guide signs the proforma, and the guide’s bio-data goes with the synopsis. A guide who does not meet these conditions is a common reason for a proposal to come back.
Choosing a BCA project
“A calculator” or “A static website”
“Online appointment and billing system for a diagnostic laboratory” with modules, a database and reports
IGNOU wants a topic complex and large enough for a final-semester project, with real analysis and design. The BCSP-064 guideline prefers a real-life project but also lets you formulate the problem with your guide. Only one student may work on one project, and you must do the coding yourself. Some areas that work well:
- Management systems: inventory, library, hospital, school or hostel management
- Web applications: online booking, e-commerce or learning platforms with a database back end
- Mobile apps: a service app for local businesses with a server back end
- Data-based systems: reporting dashboards on a business database
- Networking and security: a monitoring or access control tool
If you work in an office or business, a system built for your own workplace or a client is easier to analyse. The BCSP-064 guideline also barred some older tools, such as dBase, FoxPro, MS-Access and plain C or C++ for database projects, so check the current list before choosing a platform.
BCSP-165 synopsis format
The BCSP-064 guideline sets a synopsis of about 12–15 pages with these parts:
- Title
- Introduction and objectives
- Project category, such as RDBMS, OOPS, networking or AI
- Analysis: data flow diagrams to at least the second level, E-R or class diagrams, and database design
- Structure: modules, data structures, process logic for each module, testing details and report generation
- Tools and platform, with hardware and software requirements
- Whether the project is for an industry or client, with name and address if yes
- Future scope and enhancements
The proforma covers your details, the project title, the guide’s details and qualifications, and the software used. It is signed and dated by you and your guide, and goes with the guide’s signed bio-data. Keep a photocopy of everything. Incomplete proposals are summarily rejected.
BCSP-165 project report structure
After approval, the project and report follow the approved synopsis. The BCSP-064 guideline asks for about 50–80 double-spaced A4 pages excluding code, hard bound, with original printouts and no spiral binding. It lists:
- Introduction, objectives and tools or environment
- Analysis document: SRS, E-R or class diagrams, DFDs and data dictionary
- Design document: modularisation, data integrity and constraints, procedural design and user interface design
- Program code: complete, indented and commented, with error handling
- Testing: separate test case designs and reports for unit, integration and system testing
- Input and output screens
- Security implementation
- Limitations, future applications and bibliography
The bound report must also include the approved proforma, synopsis and guide bio-data in original, and the certificate of originality. A report can be rejected if any item is missing, if signatures or dates are absent, if the title differs from the approved proposal, or if a photocopy is submitted.
HelpBooks mentors help you turn your approved synopsis into a working BCSP-165 project and report, with your own code, test reports and screens, and a final annexure check before you submit. WhatsApp us on 8800002552
Why BCSP-165 proposals and reports come back
- Incomplete proposal, or proforma not signed and dated by both student and guide
- Guide without the required Computer Science or IT qualification, or over the workload limit
- Project too simple, or built on a tool the guideline does not allow
- DFDs or database design missing from the synopsis
- Report title different from the approved title
- Photocopied pages instead of original printouts, or spiral binding
- Approved proforma, synopsis, bio-data or originality certificate missing from the report
- Copied synopsis or report, which can be sent to the Unfair Means Committee
If your synopsis is not approved: revise it, attach the earlier synopsis and the rejected proforma with a new proforma, and resubmit in the next slot IGNOU announces. Our mentors can rework a returned synopsis using the evaluator’s comments.
How HelpBooks mentors BCA learners
Most learners who reach us have one of three problems: they cannot settle on a project idea, their synopsis has come back once, or they have approval but are stuck on the code, testing or report. Our mentors stay with you through the whole BCSP-165 journey, from the first idea list to the day your marks appear:
- 5–6 workable project ideas based on your skills, job or client need, to discuss with your guide
- Synopsis drafted with you in the prescribed format, with the proforma and bio-data checked line by line before you post it
- Help with revisions if the evaluator returns your synopsis
- After approval, support in building the project and full report on your approved synopsis, with original writing and a plagiarism check
- A final check of the annexures, certificate, binding and envelope before you send it
- Viva preparation and support until your result is declared

Common questions
Is BCSP-165 compulsory?
It is the project course of the BCA programme, a 12-credit course in the sixth semester.
Can two students do the same project together?
The BCSP-064 guideline allows only one student on each project, and you must write the code yourself.
Can I choose a guide from my workplace?
Yes, if the person meets the guide conditions above, with a Computer Science or IT qualification and the experience required.
Is there a viva for BCSP-165?
The BCSP-064 guideline has a viva voce in addition to the report evaluation, and the Regional Centre informs you of the schedule. Check the current BCSP-165 notice for the marks and dates, and bring your own copy of the report.
Can HelpBooks help if I have already started?
Yes. Many learners come to us after a returned synopsis or with approval in hand. Share what you have, and we pick up from that stage.
