IGNOU Solved Assignment 2026-27: Last Date, Format and How to Submit

Assignments carry real weight in IGNOU. In most courses they count for 30% of your final marks, and without a submitted assignment your result stays incomplete even if you clear the term-end exam. If you are appearing in the December 2026 TEE, this is the one deadline you cannot miss.

Last date for December 2026 TEE

Assignment last date 31 October 2026 (extended from 30 September)
Applies to ODL and online programmes appearing in the December 2026 TEE
Exam period 25 November 2026 to 13 January 2027 (tentative)

Check your study centre or regional centre notice as well, since some centres set an earlier internal date.

Which assignment booklet should you use?

IGNOU releases assignment question papers session-wise on its assignment portal (webservices.ignou.ac.in/assignments). Each booklet mentions the session it is valid for, usually on the first page. As a rule:

  • Download the booklet for your admission or re-registration session, not an older one.
  • Many 2026-27 booklets are common for the July 2026 and January 2027 sessions.
  • Answers to an old year's questions are not accepted, so match the questions before you write.

Writing rules most students miss

  • Handwritten only – IGNOU asks for answers in your own handwriting. Printed or typed answers can be rejected.
  • Own words – copied answers can get zero marks. Use a solved assignment as a reference and write the answer in your own words.
  • Word limits – follow the limit given with each question. Longer is not better.
  • Separate file for each course – with a front page showing your name, enrolment number, programme, course code, study centre code and session.
  • A4 sheets, one side or both as your centre allows, with a margin for the evaluator's remarks.

How to submit

  • ODL learners: submit the handwritten file at your study centre (or as your regional centre directs) and keep the stamped receipt.
  • Online programme learners: scan and upload on the LMS course page and keep the acknowledgement.
  • Keep a photocopy or scan of every file till your result is declared.

How to use a solved assignment the right way

  • Read the question and the solved answer once to understand the points to cover.
  • Close it and make your own short outline.
  • Write the final answer in your own words and handwriting, within the word limit.

This saves hours of searching through study blocks, and the same answers become good revision notes for the exam.

Common questions

Can I submit a printed solved assignment?
No. IGNOU wants handwritten answers in your own words. Use the solved file only as a reference.

What if I miss 31 October?
Your assignment will then count for a later exam session, so your December 2026 result may stay incomplete. Submit on time if you can.

Is the same assignment valid for July 2026 and January 2027?
For many courses, yes, but check the validity printed on your booklet.
